The CEPAVE Collection of Pathogenic and Symbiotic Fungi of Insects and Other Arthropods (CEP) compiles information on 687 fungal strains isolated primarily from infected arthropods in natural environments and agroecosystems throughout Argentina. The collection originated in the late 1980s from surveys of pathogenic fungi from insects of public health and agricultural interest conducted at the Center for Parasitological and Vector Studies (CEPAVE), affiliated with the National University of La Plata and CONICET.The dataset includes records from infected arthropods, soil samples, and water bodies, collected in protected and open-field agricultural systems, urban areas, protected natural environments, and aquatic ecosystems. The preserved strains belong mainly to the phyla Ascomycota, Entomophthoromycota, and Oomycota, including entomopathogenic fungi, facultative saprophytes, symbionts, and species with biotechnological potential.The collection houses three native type strains: Metarhizium argentinense, Conidiobolus lunulus, and Herpomyces spegazzinii. Additionally, some of the registered strains have been molecularly identified, and their germplasm has been preserved using various conservation methods, including deep-freezing, lyophilization, silica gel, sterile distilled water, and sterile filter paper.This dataset serves as a reference resource for studies on fungal biodiversity, taxonomy, ecology, the conservation of genetic resources, and the development of applications in biological control and biotechnology.

This training dataset contains bird occurrence records extracted from historical lietrature about birds fallen at Danish lighthouses between 1883 and 1939, in the localities of Lodbjerg Fyr and Hanstholm Fyr, Denmark.The dataset was prepared for the GBIF/BID Data Mobilization Workshop final assignment. The source files were reviewed and cleaned before publication. Invalid years, coordinate format problems, selected scientific-name spelling errors and non-numeric individual counts were corrected where there was clear evidence. Records without a publishable scientific name were excluded from the publication files, and records originally given as the vernacular name Ringdrossel were standardized to Turdus torquatus using the identification information supplied with the exercise package.The dataset is published as an Occurrence Core with Identification History and Multimedia extensions.

La Colección Paleobotánica FML fue creada por el Dr. Sergio Archangelsky en el año 1955. Comenzó con la incorporación de ejemplares de la Colección Darrah, principalmente del Devónico y Carbonífero Tardío, y fue creciendo con los sucesivos viajes paleontológicos del Dr. Archangelsky y otros investigadores como Ugarte, Castellanos, De Ferraris, Menéndez, Chiotti, Minoprio, Feruglio, Reverberi, Stipanicic, De Giusto, Criado, Herbst, Durango de Cabrera, y de las Expediciones Geológicas - Paleontológicas Lillo (EGPL) de aquella época. La Colección cuenta con fósiles de plantas de los períodos Devónico, Carbonífero, Pérmico, Triásico, Jurásico, Cretácico, Paleógeno y Neógeno, con edades entre 400 y 5 millones de años aproximadamente. Se encuentran representadas varias familias de plantas como licófitas, esfenófitas, y psilófitas, pteridófitas y diversas gimnospermas como glossopterídeas, coníferas, cícadas, ginkgos, además de angiospermas. En la actualidad, la Colección resguarda alrededor de 12.000 ejemplares fósiles, con 110 tipos taxonómicos entre holotipos, sintipos, cotipos y paratipos).

This dataset contains mammal occurrence records obtained through environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding of freshwater samples collected across Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Environmental DNA was extracted from filtered water samples and amplified targeting the 12S rRNA gene using the MiMammal-U universal primer set. Amplicons were sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq™ platform (2 × 300 bp) through the sequencing service of ANLIS "Dr. Carlos Malbrán" (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Taxonomic assignments were performed using curated reference databases to identify mammal taxa present in the sampled basins. The dataset includes records of both native and non-native mammal species and provides valuable information for biodiversity assessment and monitoring in one of the southernmost regions of South America.

The Swedish Butterfly Network (SBN) has been monitoring the occurrence of butterflies (Lepidoptera) at a series of fixed sites 3-7 times per season on an annual basis since 2009.This network of observers implements one of two standard protocols at each site: fixed-route Pollard walks or point counts. Butterfly observation information is captured by observers on paper data capture sheets that they send to the national SBN office.The SBN steering committee would like to start publishing these data online to GBIF in order to strengthen collaborations with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Swedish Transport Administration, and the Swedish County Administration Boards to influence conservation policies for Lepidoptera in Sweden.Butterfly monitoring surveys are conducted annually at more than 500 sites by volunteers from 1 April through 30 September. Sites are visited 3-7 times per season. The program does not dictate when sites are surveyed but they provide recommendations.The monitoring scheme implements two established methods: fixed-route Pollard walk transects and point site counts. The same method is used at a site each year. These methods are described in Pollard and Yates (1993) and Pettersson et al. (2011 and 2022) and enable the monitoring scheme to assess yearly changes in (1) the number of butterflies seen and (2) species composition.Fixed-route Pollard walk transects are pre-defined routes typically 0.5-3 km in length. Surveyors follow the transect at a steady pace and identify all the butterflies observed up to 5 m in front, 5 m above, and 2.5 m to each side (see the figure below).A transect can be any shape, including a loop. Each transect is inventoried once per visit. Some transects are divided into segments that typically represent a change in habitat. For example, a loop that follows a forest road, over a clearing, and then out onto a bog will have three segments. Each segment is inventoried once per visit.

The data were generated as part of an educational and citizen science program aimed at increasing local awareness of invasive species, improving field data collection skills among secondary school students, and supporting biodiversity monitoring efforts.Students, guided by instructors and local invasive species coordinators, conducted structured field surveys within designated study areas. During these surveys, they recorded observations of target invasive plant and animal species using standardized digital forms, including georeferenced locations captured via mobile devices and/or GPS-enabled mapping tools. Juan Victor Monticelli (1888-1954) fue unos de los naturalistas más importantes de La Pampa durante el siglo XX. Recorrió nuestra provincia entre los años 1928 y 1932 y colectó plantas que luego conservó en herbarios. Parte de su herbario fue una de las primeras donaciones que recibió el MPHN en el año 1935, y unas de las únicas que el museo conserva en la actualidad, y uno de los primeros herbarios de la provincia. Este trabajo formó parte de su tesis doctoral, que fue publicada en la revista de botánica Lilloa (revista del Instituto Lillo de Tucumán) en el año 1938, bajo el título “Anotaciones fitogeográficas La Pampa Central” y realizó una revisión del género Larrea (Monticelli, J. V. 1939. El género “Larrea” Cavanilles. Su historia y revisión. Physis 15: 331-356). La planta más antigua fue colectada en Agua de Torres, en el extremo oeste de nuestra provincia, en el año 1929. La colección de Monticelli del MPHN cuenta con 180 especímenes en muy buenas condiciones de conservación y es el herbario es el más antiguo de nuestra provincia.

Estos ejemplares forman parte de la Colección de Paleobotánica del IANIGLA CCT CONICET Mendoza (Argentina) identificada bajo el acrónimo IANIGLA-PB y provienen de la colecta y estudio realizados por investigadores de esta institución y de otros centros de Argentina en el marco de proyectos de investigación en virtud de la ley de “Protección del Patrimonio Arqueológico y Paleontológico”. Los ejemplares provienen de secuencias sedimentarias de la provincia de Mendoza asignadas al Neógeno (Formación Mariño); al Cretácico Superior (Formación Loncoche); al Jurásico Inferior (Formación El Freno) al Triásico (formaciones Agua de la Zorra, Cacheuta, Cerro de Las Cabras, Chichuido, Llantenes, Montaña, Quebrada de los Fósiles, Paramillos y Potrerillos), Carbonífero Superior (Formación Santa Máxima) y Devónico Inferior (Formación Villavicencio). La procedencia estratigráfica de estos fósiles corresponde principalmente (76%) a la Formación Potrerillos de Quebrada del Durazno, Cuenca Cuyana, asignada al Triásico Superior (Carniano). Susana Mariel Devincenzi es curadora ad hoc de la colección.

This dataset contains event-based occurrence records of butterflies (Lepidoptera) collected through standardized Pollard walk transects coordinated by the International Butterfly Amateur Network (IBAN). Each sampling event represents a transect visit conducted by a volunteer observer, during which butterflies were recorded within a fixed distance from the transect line. Transects are subdivided into sections to preserve sampling structure, and species occurrences are linked to these section-level events. The dataset includes counts of observed individuals, life stage and behavior when recorded.Sampling effort is represented using linear transect length in meters. Environmental conditions were recorded at the start of each transect, such as weather and sky conditions, while distance from the transect line is recorded at the occurrence level. Spatial coordinates are provided where available, with uncertainty explicitly documented.Observer names and identifiers are transcribed verbatim from original data capture sheets to preserve provenance, and any ambiguities are documented in remarks rather than corrected without confirmation. Conjunto de datos perteneciente a la Colección de Paleoinvertebrados del IANIGLA-CCT CONICET Mendoza (Argentina) identificada bajo el acrónimo IANIGLA-PI. El material fósil proviene de la colecta y estudio realizados por investigadores de esta institución y de otros centros de Argentina en el marco de proyectos de investigación en virtud de la ley de “Protección del Patrimonio Arqueológico y Paleontológico”. El dataset incluye 2790 registros fósiles. Los ejemplares pertenecientes al Reino Animalia representan la mayor parte del dataset y suman el 98 % (Phylum Annelida, Arthropoda, Brachiopoda, Chordata, Cnidaria, Hemichordata, Mollusca y Porifera). Se presentan además: un ejemplar del Reino Protoctista (Phylum Granoreticulosa) y cuatro registros del Reino Chlorobionta (Phylum Charophyta), 19 ootecas, y 6 trombolitos. La colección tiene 149 especies, 19 holotipos y 67 paratipos. Todos los ejemplares fueron revisados por especialistas. El 86% de los ejemplares proceden fundamentalmente de secuencias paleozoicas y mesozoicas de las provincias de Mendoza y San Juan (Argentina). La curadora de esta colección es Susana Mariel Devincenzi, Licenciada en Ciencias Geológicas.

The Avifaunal diversity study of Pakhibitan, Ecopark is published by Nature Mates Nature Club under WBHIDCO Pakhibitan Project in Pakhibitan, Ecopark, Newtown, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. This sampling event was performed in a selected point located in the marshlands covered with elephant grass (Typha sp.) of Pakhibitan surrounded by medium-sized trees and bushes. In the summer (April-May), the maximum temperature of the area reaches around 41°C. During the winter (December-February), the temperature drops to 9°C while the average rainfall is 1836.5 mm per year. The soil type is alluvial because it is located in the Indo-Gangetic plain. This dataset includes all the birds recorded in a span of three months from October to December 2023. All the species are identified up to the species level. A total of 105 species of birds were recorded belonging to 46 families and 16 order. Along with birds diversity we also mentioned temperature, humidity and wind speed in the dataset. This dataset also includes the life stage, activity, and behavior of the observed birds.

The International Butterfly Amateur Network (IBAN) has been providing a framework for national amateur observational groups to capture data about the occurrence of butterflies (Lepidoptera) from 2009 to 2012. An extensive network of amateur observers use a standard protocol based on Pollard walks to capture this information on paper sheets that they send to their national office. IBAN produces an annual report based on the sightings provided by these national members, with updated distribution maps and analysis of population trends for some key species. With the increasing popularity of citizen science and the general interest in butterflies as a charismatic group of organisms, more and more data are received every year and the paper data sheets quickly pile up undigitized. The IBAN steering committee is trying to identify a more efficient and agile workflow for the creation of digital data because they would like to start publishing these data online regularly. They would also like to start processing digital pictures that their volunteers are already capturing with mobile devices like phones and tablets. Their ultimate objective is to raise the profile of the network and strengthen collaborations with local and regional governments to influence conservation policies for Lepidoptera in the countries involved. Currently the dataset represents Lepidoptera sightings from different parts of Israel. From there 247 species were recorded.

The dataset “ Fauna diversity study of Rabindra Sarobar (Dhakuria Lake), Kolkata, West Bengal, India” is published by Nature Mates Nature Club Rabindra Sarobar (previously known as Dhakuria Lake) is an artificial lake in south Kolkata, West Bengal. But it is also a National lake in India. The name also refers to the area surrounding the lake. It is flanked by Southern Avenue to the North, Rashbehari Avenue (Russa Road) to the West, Dhakuria to the East and the Kolkata Suburban Railway tracks to the south. In the early 1920s, the Calcutta Improvement Trust (CIT), a body responsible for developmental work in the Kolkata metropolitan area, acquired about 192 acres (0.78 km2) of marshy jungles. Their intention was to develop the area for residential use – improving the roads, raising and levelling some of the adjacent land and building lakes and parks. Excavation work was undertaken with the plan of creating a huge lake. Originally known as Dhakuria Lake, in May 1958, CIT renamed the lake as Rabindra Sarovar, as a tribute to the great Bengali writer and Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore. The area around this excavated lake was later developed to build recreational complexes, which included children’s parks, gardens, swimming and auditoria. Today the lake and its surrounding areas are one of the most popular recreational areas in Kolkata. 73 acres (300,000 m2) are covered by water, while shrubs and trees, some of which are more than 100 years old, occupy the rest of the area. Earlier, this lake was the lungs of Southern Calcutta. A partial tree census in 2012 recorded 50 different species. In the winter, one can spot some migratory birds along with resident birds around the lake. Though the numbers are dwindling because of the rise in pollution levels. The lake itself is home to many varieties of fish and odonates. Here fishing is strictly prohibited. This dataset enlists animal diversity observed on two days in two different years (11th February 2021 and 8th May 2023). During this biodiversity survey, we recorded Dragonflies (4 species), butterflies (8 species), fishes (6 species), reptiles (2 species), birds (48 species), and mammals (2 species). Species or genus-level identifications have been made for every species.

The dataset was created firstly by digitizing the book volumes "Fuglene ved de danske Fyr" into PDF files, OCR-ing the PDF files and finally extracting data and compiling them in a database file. The occurrence records in this dataset is from the period 1883-1939, there were 45 lighthouses and lightships functioning in Denmark. This dataset contains specific occurrence records and notes on bird species that struck 2 of these, namely Lodbjerg Fyr and Hanstholm Fyr. The dataset covers records from during the nights of bird migration period from the years 1886 through 1939 (there were no occurrence records or notes on Lodbjerg Fyr and Hanstholm Fyr between 1883- 1885 and 1887-1888). A total of 1212 records were generated with 742 records from Lodbjerg Fyr and 470 records from Hanstholm Fyr.

El Catálogo florístico de la Faja Petrolífera del Orinoco es un listado que consta de 86 especies de plantas de mayor abundancia relativa en los ecosistemas y agrosistemas presentes en la Faja Petrolífera del Orinoco, la cual es una región caracterizada por poseer una riqueza importante en tipos de ecosistemas, modulados por un conjunto definido de especies de plantas. El listado se basa en el mapa de cobertura vegetal y usos de la tierra elaborado en el marco del proyecto Planificación para La Conservación de La Biodiversidad en la Faja Petrolífera Del Orinoco Hugo Chávez Frías (González et al. 2016) El mapa posee un área de estudio de 81.255,8 km2 aproximadamente el 8,1% del territorio terrestre de Venezuela, se realizó con base en la interpretación de imágenes de satélite y la importante experiencia de campo del profesor Valois González, donde se identificaron 104 tipos de cobertura vegetal y usos de la tierra, descritos en su leyenda según su tipo fisionómico, altura, dosel, hábito, su relación con los suelos, el tipo de régimen hídrico y las dos especies de mayor abundancia relativa, este último atributo permitió la identificación de 86 especies de plantas de mayor abundancia relativa en los ecosistemas y agrosistemas presentes en la Faja Petrolífera del Orinoco. The Natural History Museum of Denmark (NHM-DK) is a research centre associated with the University of Copenhagen. Their library is a member of the national library association who recently received state funding to make available online the resources held by its members. The NHM-DK would like to begin digitization of the field notebooks, journal publications and books held in their library, some of which have significant historic value. After a short consultation with their regular partners, NHM-DK received a suggestion from the Head of the management office of the Nordjylland National Park. They would like the contents of a particular classic literature compilation digitized for a project they are running: ‘Birds at the Danish Lighthouses, 1883–1939’ (In Danish, ‘Fuglene ved de danske Fyr, 1883–1939’). They want to use any occurrence data recorded in those books from two lighthouses (Lodbjerg Fyr and Hanstholm Fyr) for an on-site exhibition project. The NHM-DK has started discussions with their national GBIF node, DanBIF, about the mobilization of the information contained in these volumes, namely to preserve their contents for the future and provide online access for everyone. With the involvement of DanBIF, there is intent to publish and register the resulting extracted data with GBIF. As GBIF requires a license be applied with all published data, the museum has decided to publish the data with a Creative Commons license allowing use of data with attribution (CC-BY). The IT services required are provided by the Technology Unit of the University of Copenhagen, as for all museum digital projects. The NHM-DK deputy director, who is coordinating this piece of work has developed a general outline for the work: The museum will carry out the digitization of the literature using two library staff members trained in the use of the library scanner to scan delicate volumes. They will also extract text from the scans through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. Three volunteers from the Copenhagen Ornithological Society (COS) who regularly collaborate with the museum and are familiar with the birds of the region have been enlisted to assist and will complete the transfer of data from the scanned PDFs into spreadsheet format. They will need to go to the museum and use the computers available in the library to gain access to the files stored in the museum intranet (private network). The Ornithology Curator in the NHM-DK Bird Department will lead the team responsible for taxonomic checking, data curation, cleaning, format and transformation, and will oversee the entry of metadata for the published dataset. The team includes a collaborating researcher from Sweden, and two postdoctoral students. They have been selected for this task because they are used to working with digital biodiversity data. They will all use their own work computers. The DanBIF Node Manager will ensure that the institution is adequately registered in GBIF as a data publisher and that the deputy director and the ornithology curator have the proper credentials and access to DanBIF’s IPT instance to upload and publish the data.

The Hawaii Invasive Species Council (HISC) received a federal grant to collaborate with high schools as part of Hawaii’s statewide curriculum on Invasive Species to increase local knowledge about invasive species, increase data collection and produce annotated checklists for under reported areas. A full-time Project Manager is employed to oversee the project. All funds and allocations are managed by the HISC Fiscal Associate. The Manager of each island’s Invasive Species Committee (ISC) received a sub-award to set up local education programs and collect data. The programs trained high school students to become Student Mentors and to facilitate image and data collection by members of the local community. The Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC) received a further sub-award to extend their central database to accommodate each ISC’s data, provide participating schools with their own websites, and maintain a single, searchable data portal to serve government, public, and scholarly research efforts. Two schools on each island were selected because they were located in areas where knowledge and documentation of invasive species assessment was poor or non-existent. Teachers worked with their local Invasive Species Council (ISC) Outreach Associate to create teaching materials detailing 21 important invasive plant species, including how to identify each species’ life stages and the most effective control methods. The Graduate School of the University of Hawaii in Maui (UHM) runs a course in community outreach. Four botany students from the University, as a part of their final course assessment, are validating the identifications from the images and descriptions submitted by each high school to their local ISC. The Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC) is a voluntary partnership of private citizens, community organizations, businesses, land owners, and government agencies to address invasive species issues on the island of Hawaii. BIISC's mission includes education, early detection, rapid response, control and eradication of invasive pests threatening agriculture, native ecosystems, industry, human health or the quality of life within Hawaii County. DESCRIPTION The Natural History Museum of Denmark (NHM-DK) is a research centre associated with the University of Copenhagen. Their library is a member of the national library association who recently received state funding to make available online the resources held by its members. The NHM-DK would like to begin digitization of the field notebooks, journal publications and books held in their library, some of which have significant historic value. After a short consultation with their regular partners, NHM-DK received a suggestion from the Head of the management office of the Nordjylland National Park. They would like the contents of a particular classic literature compilation digitized for a project they are running: ‘Birds at the Danish Lighthouses, 1883–1939’ (In Danish, Fuglene ved de danske Fyr, 1883–1939’). They want to use any occurrence data recorded in those books from two lighthouses (Lodbjerg Fyr and Hanstholm Fyr) for an on-site exhibition project. The NHM-DK has started discussions with their national GBIF node, DanBIF, about the mobilization of the information contained in these volumes, namely to preserve their contents for the future and provide online access for everyone. With the involvement of DanBIF, there is intent to publish and register the resulting extracted data with GBIF. As GBIF requires a license be applied with all published data, the museum has decided to publish the data with a Creative Commons license allowing use of data with attribution (CC-BY). The IT services required are provided by the Technology Unit of the University of Copenhagen, as for all museum digital projects. The HHM-DK deputy director, who is coordinating this piece of work has developed a general outline for the work: 1. The museum will carry out the digitization of the literature using two library staff members trained in the use of the library scanner to scan delicate volumes. They will also extract text from the scans through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. 2. Three volunteers from the Copenhagen Ornithological Society (COS) who regularly collaborate with the museum and are familiar with the birds of the region have been enlisted to assist and will complete the transfer of data from the scanned PDFs into spreadsheet format. They will need to go to the museum and use the computers available in the library to gain access to the files stored in the museum intranet (private network). 3. The Ornithology Curator in the Bird Department will lead the team responsible for taxonomic checking, data curation, cleaning, format and transformation, and will oversee the entry of metadata for the published dataset. The team includes a collaborating researcher from Sweden, and two postdoctoral students. They have been selected for this task because they are used to working with digital biodiversity data. They will all use their own work computers. 4. The DanBIF Node Manager will ensure that the institution is adequately registered in GBIF as a data publisher and that the deputy director and the ornithology curator have the proper credentials and access to DanBIF’s IPT instance to upload and publish the data. ORIGINAL DATA COLLECTION In the period 1883-1939, there were 45 lighthouses and lightships functioning in Denmark. These lighthouses were used by several species of birds during the nights of the bird migration period from the years 1886 through 1939. The presence and activities of these birds were recorded, especially by the keepers of these lighthouses who also collected specimens that were sent to the museum in Copenhagen. These birds were carefully preserved and catalogued by collection managers at the museum and the specimens can still be found there today. Observations of weather conditions during the nights when birds were observed by the keepers were also documented. ANALOGUE DATA DESCRIPTION, SCANNED AND TRANSLATED DATA DESCRIPTION The description of a series of species observations from one of the books is in German, except the common name for the species which is provided in Danish. This is an example of the scanned and translated output from the analogue above: 2. Cerchneis tinnunculus, Linn. ("Taarnfalk") nests in several steeples around Viborg. At the churches of Mönsted and Daubjerg there were several family groups in 1880, each of 7 individuals, suggesting a particularly abundant source of food on the surrounding heather (lizards). In the area of Thisted, where the tower falcon broods very often, young were always present in broods of 6, only once did I find a group of 7 on Egebäksande (H.) In Horsens I found kestrels brooding on the churches of Vähr, Hansted, Hundslund, Thyrsted and Oelsted. In the steeple of Vähr I found a nest with 6 eggs on 6 May 1875, 6 eggs on 30 April 1876, 4 eggs on 28 April 1878; in 1877 and 1879 there were none, on 2 May 1880 they had 5 eggs, in 1882 also 5 eggs, and in 1883 seven. In Oelsted 5 eggs on 3 May 1879, in 1882 also 5, and in 1883 6 eggs. On the churches (Our Lady’s and St. Peter’s) of Copenhagen, I have often seen it in the autumn and winter of 1879; in spring 1880, it brooded on Our Lady’s church, the "round tower" and the law firm building (in a valve) and certainly also on St. Peter’s Church. This dataset presents occurrence records and notes of birds extracted from the multiple volumes of “Fuglene ved de danske Fyr 1883-1939” (i.e. “Birds at the Danish Lighthouses 1883-1939”).The dataset was created firstly by digitizing the book volumes "Fuglene ved de danske Fyr" into PDF files, OCR-ing the PDF files and finally extracting relevant data and compiling them in a database file. In the period 1883-1939, there were 45 lighthouses and lightships functioning in Denmark. This dataset contains specific occurrence records and notes on bird species that struck 2 of these, namely Lodbjerg Fyr and Hanstholm Fyr. The dataset covers records from during the nights of bird migration period from the years 1886 through 1939 (there were no occurrence records or notes on Lodbjerg Fyr and Hanstholm Fyr between 1883- 1885 and 1887-1888). A total of 1212 records were generated with 742 records from Lodbjerg Fyr and 470 records from Hanstholm Fyr.
